AJOE HOME

The Australian Journal of Outdoor Education (AJOE) is published twice a year and sent to: members of organisations affiliated with the Outdoor Council of Australia, individual subscribers, and institutional subscribers. It has both Australian and overseas audiences, although the majority of readers are Australian.  Approximately 800 copies are produced per issue.

Goals of the AJOE

The uniqueness of AJOE is its ability to meet the needs of a wide cross section of readers whether they be classroom teachers, academics or practitioners in the field.  The AJOE attempts to provide clear links between theory, research and practice.

Therefore our goals are to:

(a) Provide balanced and in-depth investigation of outdoor education practices and theories in a variety of educational and recreational contexts.
(b) Enhance understanding of outdoor education and recreation issues in relation to their wider educational, recreational and social contexts.
(c) Help readers keep abreast of current outdoor education research.
(d) Examine and present research with a view as to how it might be implemented for classroom teachers and practitioners as researchers.
(f) Provide a forum in which outdoor education and outdoor recreation professionals from all settings can exchange and discuss ideas and practices relevant to their work.

Online access to the Australian Journal of Outdoor Education (AJOE)

From July 2006, it will be possible for organisations and individuals to access the Australian Journal of Outdoor Education online from a number of providers.

If you want to be able to purchase an individual article from a previous issue of ajoe you can do so through "EdResearch Online" managed by the Australian Council of Educational Research. If an organisation or institution wants to organise an online subscription to the Australian Journal of Outdoor Education, which includes the last 6 editions as well as future editions, this is best done by contacting the librarian responsible for online subscriptions at your institution.  Online subscriptions to the AJOE is currently available through Proquest (http://www.proquest.com/) or Thomson Gale (http://www.gale.com/).

Guidelines and Information for Prospective AJOE Authors

The following information is provided to assist prospective authors to be more successful with the publication of their work in the AJOE.

When preparing your paper, please take the time to carefully read the contributor guidelines which can be downloaded from the link below. Some additional links are also provided to assist you with the preparation of your manuscripts.

A final recommendation for new authors, which is often overlooked, is to make sure that you are familiar with past and current 'conversations' or 'threads' that have been published in previous editions of AJOE. This will help you to place your work within a context and make your contribution more relevant to AJOE readers.
